The Executive Chairperson of the LACC, Cllr. Alexandra K. Zoe, Engaged Young Women Participating in the Go Girls Lead Mentorship Program, Cohort 8, in an Interactive Lecture Organized by "Books Before Boys" in Collaboration with the Alhaji Souleymane Syll
The lecture provided a platform for Cllr. Zoe to expand the young women’s understanding of corruption, its impact on society, and the importance of recognizing and preventing corrupt practices from an early stage. Cllr. Zoe encouraged the participants to develop a strong sense of integrity and understand that the fight against corruption begins with individual choices and responsible citizenship.
Cllr. Zoe also introduced the participants to the work of the LACC, detailing its mandate and efforts to prevent and address corruption, the Commission’s prosecution work, how the LACC monitors high-risk institutions, Corruption Risk Assessments, and the role of Asset Declaration and Verification in promoting accountability among public officials.
The discussion further explored the channels available for reporting suspected acts of corruption and the responsibility of citizens to speak up when they encounter practices that undermine public trust and good governance.
The young women participated actively, asking questions and reflecting on how the lessons could apply to their own lives, communities, and future careers. Their engagement shows the importance of the creating spaces where young people can openly discuss corruption and understand their role in promoting integrity.
It was an inspiring moment seeing so many young women enthusiastic, interested, and eager to learn about combating corruption and taking an active role in protecting their own future.
The lecture ended with a gift in celebration of Menstrual Health and Hygiene, as Cllr. Zoe prepared and shared packages containing menstrual kits with all the participants.
