LACC Launches Initiative to Fight Corruption
Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) along with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has launched The Anti-Corruption Innovation Initiative Project.
The Launch which was held under the theme, “Technology and Innovation at the Frontline – Boosting Public Confidence in the Fight against Corruption”, took place in Monrovia at the Ministerial Complex on Tuesday.
In separate welcome remarks, the Executive Chairperson the LACC, Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin and the Resident Reprehensive of the UNDP, Mr. Stephen Rodriques; said the Initiative is being launched to ensure that new strategies are developed to fight corruption and must involve all stakeholders in the integrity circle.
The Anti-Corruption Innovation Initiative Project comes as a result of collaboration from within integrity institutions to device new ways to tackle corruption.
Under the initiative, the LACC will take lead on hiring more than 15 County Anti-Corruption Officers that will be deployed around the country and report directly to the LACC
Additionally, the LACC will develop a secure national digital e-platform whereby the public may report suspected acts of corruption.
The e-platform will also be able to contribute in the gathering of data on incidences of corruption is selected counties, thus expanding the presence of the LACC to tackle corruption in the country.
The civil society and other stakeholders will work with the LACC to create more public awareness on corruption and enhance public understanding about the dangers of corruption to the society.
The LACC is partnering with CENTAL, Integrity Watch Liberia and Accountability lab on this new initiative.
