Osiwa Role Crucial To Fighting Corruption – LACC Chief Asserts
The Executive Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, Cllr Edwin Kla Martin has praised the role of the Open Society Initiative of West Africa (OSIWA) in strengthening Democracy and the fight against corruption. He said OSIWA has over the Years supported Democratic Institutions and Anti-Graft Offices.
Cllr. Martin has assured of Renew Partnership under his Leadership with OSIWA in reducing incident of Corruption in Liberia.
The Country’s Anti-Graft Chief spoke of the Need for the Decentralization of Corruption Mitigation efforts in the Country and the Passage of Enabling Legislation.
He said the Current form of Anti-Corruption Legislation in itself is an abrogation of the rule of law. Cllr Martin Intimated the Processes leading to the accused getting Justice in Anti-Corruption Cases are too long and cumbersome. He called for OSIWA support in the Passage of Anti-Corruption Legislation and other Capacity Development.
For his part, OSIWA Regional Director with Responsibility over Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, Mr Joseph Pemagbi said the work of the LACC is extremely important to strengthening Democracy in West Africa.
He said OSIWA role is to support Citizens participation in the Democratic Development of the Region.
The OSIWA official informed the LACC Boss that his line of Duty is in Direct agreement with the work of the Regional group.
Mr Pemagbi reiterated the need for transparency in the delivery of social services and the Judicial expenditure of Public Resources.
And He said in the absence of transparency and accountability the will be a lack of Foreign Direct Investment.
Mr Pemagbi who hails from Neighboring Sierra Leone said the Challenges of People in the Sub Region are the same and calls for Collaborative approach in addressing them.
